In-service Inspection and Testing of Appliances has grown with a new code of practice being issued in 2009. The new code of practice has expanded the scope of appliance testing to cover fixed appliances that are hard wired to the fixed wiring of an installation.
A hand drier, air conditioning unit, electric wet boiler, gas boiler , cooker, in fact anything other than a luminare connected to the fixed wiring has now been classified within the code of practice. Under the Electricity at work act, all of the above now falls within the scope of work and any employer has a responsibility to introduce a maintenance program for the safety of them self, their staff and even the public if applicable.
There are training courses available via City and Guilds 2377-100 for administration and 2377-200 for inspectors.
With our help you can identify your appliances, set up a register, and a regime for carrying out the required checks.
Your staff will need training on user checks, formal visual inspections, and in-service inspection and test. We can carry out the latter two on your behalf as they are normally carrier out by electrically competent personnel.
